Help Maintain Proper Engine Timing with a Nissan Timing Belt
The timing belt is responsible for synchronizing your engine's internal moving components so they operate together with precision. Replacing a worn timing belt according to your Nissan's maintenance schedule helps support reliable engine operation. Zeigler Nissan Orland Park carries genuine Nissan timing belts designed for select Nissan models.
What a Timing Belt Does
The timing belt connects the crankshaft and camshaft, ensuring the engine's valves open and close at the proper time during each combustion cycle. Accurate timing is essential for normal engine performance.
What Causes Timing Belts to Wear?
Timing belts are manufactured from reinforced rubber materials that naturally age over time. Heat, mileage, oil contamination, and continuous operation gradually reduce the belt's service life.
When Should You Replace It?
Your Nissan's recommended maintenance schedule provides guidance for timing belt replacement intervals. Cracks, fraying, missing teeth, or signs of oil contamination should also be inspected promptly.
Find the Correct Timing Belt
Whether you drive a Nissan Frontier or a Nissan Pathfinder, choosing a timing belt designed for your vehicle helps ensure proper compatibility. During timing belt service, many owners also inspect related water pumps and belts and hoses.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does every Nissan use a timing belt?
No. Some Nissan engines use a timing chain instead of a timing belt. The design depends on the engine and model year.
Can a worn timing belt affect engine performance?
Yes. A timing belt that has reached the end of its service life can affect engine operation and should be replaced according to the recommended maintenance schedule.
Should the water pump be replaced with the timing belt?
Many technicians recommend inspecting or replacing the water pump during timing belt service because both components are often accessed at the same time.
